Modern Day

1. Read ACLU Equal Paya. The Women’s Rights Movement focuses on fighting for equal rights for women like fair pay, as many women were working (for example in factories) for little pay. Today, the American Civil Liberties Union works to end discrimination in the workplace and ensure that all workers— regardless of sex, race, national origin, age, or disability—are able to bring
home every dollar they rightfully earn. Today “Women still make just 78 cents for every dollar earned by men. Black women earn only 64 cents and Latinas only 54 cents for each dollar earned by white men.” Why do you think this discrimination is still legal? Cite information (2 pieces of legislation) from the article to back up your stance.

I personally think that this discrimination is still legal because some people don't take the problem towards womens rights seriously. The president himself is not doing anything to help women that are not white, he is basically against Hispanic women and Black women. So maybe discrimination is still legal because of the president, he should do something because it's about time. The article states that  "The ACLU also advocates for the passage of federal legislation and executive branch action to protect access to the right to go to court to fight discrimination and reduce pay disparities" and this tells me that women can fight for the amount of money they get because of sex and they should do it and possibly change it for many women. Another thing that the article states is "The ACLU also works to change unfair employment practices that disproportionately harm women suffering from intersecting forms of discrimination" and this tells me that there are good people out there trying to fix the problem so every sex has equal pay. Something needs to be done.

2. Read Women’s Rights in Education
a. Title IX was passed in 1972, as a federal law that has guaranteed the right to education free from sex discrimination. There are three major issues the ACLU claims as obstacles for equality (sex stereotypes, pregnancy rates, and gender based violence) summarize all three issues. Which issue do
you feel like is the worst and why?

One of the three major issues the ACLU claims as obstacles for equality is wanting to separate boys and girls in schools because according to the article "male and female students are then subjected to radically different teaching methods in the classroom on the basis of these sex-based generalizations." The second major issue is that some schools do not allow pregnant students to study at their school. they think that young mothers can be behavior problems when actually hey should give a young mother the education she needs. The last problem is that students face violence/ harassment because of their gender. Schools should address this problem instead of ignoring it. I think that the biggest problem is facing violence because of gender, In my opinion females receive more violence than males because there are many more things that can happen to females due to the way they look like.

3. Read Our Mission: Women’s March
a. What is the mission of the Women’s Right March? The Movement has 8 rights which they fight four (ending violence, reproductive rights, LGBTQIA rights, workers’ rights, civil rights, disability rights, immigrant rights and environmental justice). Which 3 rights do you think are the most important and why? Do you think the women of the Seneca Falls Convention would be proud of the progress the movement has made? Explain why or why not.

The mission of the Women's Rights March is to show people that women can actually change things and that we are not what they think. I think that the 3 most important rights are to end violence, workers rights and immigrants rights. I think that ending violence is important because then many people don't have to live a life of fear. I think that workers rights are important because every race and gender should be paid the same and not differently because of how they look like. Lastly I think that immigrant rights are important because a lot of people come here for a better life and people should actually have that chance.

  1. Hello Valerie

I agree with the statement, "I personally think that this discrimination is still legal because some people don't take the problem towards women's rights seriously", because today, people only say that discrimination is bad if something discriminatory happens in a public environment. 2. Hello Valerie

I agree with the statement, "In my opinion females receive more violence than males," because women seem more susceptible to violent actions then men. A woman's appearance looks more vulnerable than a man's. Link: https://goo.gl/W7agWo

  3. Hello Valerie,

I disagree with "actually hey should give a young mother the education she needs." because although I do agree that you need to be educated to be a good mother, young women should really give this proper consideration before they start "down the road" to having a baby.

  4. Hello Valerie,

I agree with "females receive more violence than males because there are many more things that can happen to females due to the way they look like." because women face so much prejudice based on their beauty or lack of. All people care about when it comes to women is what they can see.

  5. I agree with you Valerie,

not many people now in days do not respect and take women seriously. Some people ask Why we need to have national women's day? Its because men always had everything given to them once they were born. Women had to and still have to keep fighting for what they want and what is right. I think people should take women seriously because they are important part of the world and lives.

  6. Hello Valerie
I agree with you with the line "I personally think that this discrimination is still legal because some people don't take the problem towards women's rights seriously" Because people mostly men, they keep thinking that women are unnecessary, and I really think that women's are getting ahead of men because of that mentality they have..

  9. Hello Valerie

I agree with "discrimination is still legal because some people don't take the problem towards women's rights seriously." Discrimination is technically still legal because women and African Americans are still discriminated some people aren't doing anything about it, as they might not care. This article explains ways in which discrimination is legal: http://www.spigglelaw.com/employment-blog/discrimination-how-and-why-can-it-be-legal/#

  10. Hello Valerie

I agree with you when saying "The mission of the Women's Rights March is to show people that women can actually change things". I think that the mission of the Women's Rights March is to show people than women can change things but I also think its to show that women can do the same as men, which is why they should have the same rights. Here's an article explaining the mission of the Women's Rights March in detail: https://www.womensmarch.com/mission/
